Please check online about the flooding in eastern Nebraska and now western Iowa. We have blown past once every 100 years levels. Roads, bridges, levees, and homes have been wiped away and the rivers haven’t crested yet. I’m safe but my place is the evacuation area so I’m playing the waiting game at family friends place till I can see the damage.

A shame. Best of luck, I hope everything turns out reasonably well for you.
Seems like widespread weather damage is going to be the new normal in much of the U.S.

Shit man. Have you started moving stuff upstairs and put wood sheeting around the lower edges of the doors (using silicone to fill gaps)?

Moved a bunch of stuff upstairs. Never got a chance to prep the doors. Spent too much time sandbagging. We made a barrier that held and we thought we may have saved the neighborhood but at 8 this morning a levee broke upstream and the flood came from a different path.

This has been unreal, half of Fremont is being washed away.

Wrap up warm and hunker down but be prepared to move quickly if you need to.
You take care okay and keep safe.

Christ. And being above the 100 year line, you couldn’t get flood insurance either, could you? :(

All ready on the high ground now here at a my friends parents. Plenty of food a water just waiting till either I can check stuff out at home or I can leave town to either my Dad’s or Sister’s place. All the roads out of town or under water too so we are stuck until the river gives up.

Haven’t gotten that far yet. I’m one of lucky ones, I still think I have something to go back to (at least upstairs). A lot of people are going to have nothing at all.

Where are you? I have family in Fremont, Lincoln, Omaha, Broken Bow, Kearney, and Wayne (basically all my aunts and uncles and most of my cousins) . So far it sounds like they are all ok, but Fremont is pretty bad. Be safe.

Fremont. Omaha and Lincoln are good we just can’t get there. My dad is around Wayne and says things are okay there. Kearney and Broken Bow may have some water but nothing like Fremont. Fremont keeps trying to sandbag but things are changing so fast it is hard to keep ahead.

On the plus side, in 6 months you’ll have tons o f cheap project cars....
My thoughts are with you. Stay warm and safe, eat plenty of food that tastes good and is terrible for you.

Take care and keep in touch with authorities and any alerts, radio broadcasts and Internet.

I was told that we had to eat these steaks before they go bad. That’s a job I can do right now.

Yeah, and of course, they can’t afford or even purchase flood insurance because their insurer won’t sell it to them. And lots of them aren’t in SFHA’s that require flood insurance with the mortgage. Plus all the levee failures and dam failures... sigh.

It’s a mess. I’m dreading dealing with the insurance company when this done too.

Well, unfortunately, if you didn’t buy flood insurance it’ll be a short conversation. “None of it’s covered. Bye.”

It’s renters insurance so I have a little more leeway hopefully. At least that’s how it got explained to me when I signed up for it. Maybe I’ll just cut my loses and just live out of my pickup and be a nomad.

just nuts, saw some of the footage on the news. Was it ice dams or a combo with the super rain?
![]() 03/16/2019 at 21:42 |

Ice jams, warm temperatures out of nowhere, and rain. We had record amounts of snow in the last 3 months and it all melted in a few days with rain.

God damn. So sorry to hear. I have been so busy trying to make sure my place didn't flood from the warm weather and rain as well.

Fortunately for me the sandbags have helped a lot, I got to check my place tonight, I don’t think water made it in. Feels nice that some of this work has had positive benefits.

I saw a bunch of pictures on FB. The damage is unreal. I've never seen anything like some of it.

We still don’t how bad the highways are here. They are mostly underwater and the few the few that have receded have significant damage.

Given the pictures of br idges and houses I’ve seen torn apart by ice, I’d be shocked if there wasn’t significant damage waiting to be revealed.
My best to you and your family and community.

Thank you, I maybe able to go back to my place tonight. Taking a quick check I don’t think the water got to into my place at all.

That's excellent.
